The Calgary Folk Music Festival Is Back!
The Calgary Folk Music Festival is running July 26-29 and it is a great opportunity to check out a wide range of music from all over the world! It is held in Princess Island Park and over 60 artists are in attendance including Rufus Wainwright and Don McLean. The festival aims at appealing to the music tastes of just about everyone. Artists come from a wide range of backgrounds from roots to world to alternative. You can check out the website to view all the artists performing. Artists are set up at several different stages, but it is a good idea to get set up early in the day with a tarp in front of the main stage. International cuisine is available for festival-goers; however, you do have the option of bringing your own food. You can buy tickets by phoning Ticketmaster 777-0000.
Going away the weekend of the Calgary Folk Festival? Still want to expireince the festival life? Well Canmore is holding their 30th annual Folk Music Festival (which includes many of the same artists as the Calgary festival) and you get to enjoy it against the backdrop of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. The Festival is held the following weekend (August 4th to August 6th) at Centennial Park. Tickets are considerably less expensive then the Calgary festival, and the crowds are smaller as well!
Don’t have anyone to visit these festivals with? That’s not a problem! The Folk Festivals are a great way to get out and meet people. Those that visit the festivals are always very friendly and you’ll be sure to find a new friend to spend the day with.
