Freehold Townhomes (not condos - no fees)
 A freehold townhome is one where you own the unit and the land around the unit. It is similar to owning a half duplex - there are no condo fees. When condominium living was in its infancy in the early seventies, developers experimented with a different form of the idea.
The freehold townhome was one of the hybrids that resulted. At first glance this seems appealing but there are pitfalls. Today most of these developments have deteriorated because of a lack of a central group that has power over the complex. In a high density environment you can have as many opinions as you have residents.
Eventually exterior colors have no continuity, landscaping tastes and expectations diverge and other problems arise. As an example, a hail storm hits and half the complex replaces the siding and the other takes a payout from their insurance company. One gets a light brown coloured shingle on the roof and his neighbor has gray installed. They might look appealing on the onset but just beneath the surface it can be chaos.
